How should you check Las Vegas bus arrivals?
Check the route, direction, and exact stop before reading an arrival time. Distinguish a scheduled departure from a live prediction, then read current alerts for closures or detours. Recheck before each connection; a countdown does not guarantee boarding or an open stop. Use designated pedestrian routes and change plans when heat makes waiting unsafe. Call 911 for a medical emergency. Confirm operating details with RTC and the current information tool, not a saved screenshot.

What does each information source actually tell you?
A timetable, an arrival prediction, and a service notice answer different questions. Read them together.

RTC's August 2026 Deuce route sheet, checked September 7, 2026, explicitly describes its scheduled frequency as approximate and warns of traffic, construction, and other disruptions. It directs riders to RTC information, rideRTC, or Transit for further updates.
Below, references to screen labels and symbols concern the Transit app, using its official support documentation checked September 7, 2026. They are not instructions for every app with a bus icon. Features and data availability can vary; this publication has not tested a journey or measured prediction accuracy.
How do you confirm the right stop and direction?
Start with your departure entrance and the destination entrance, not just two hotel names. Identify the boarding stop, route, direction, and intended alighting stop. Keep a stop identifier when the information tool or stop sign provides one.
Transit's schedule instructions explain that selecting a line from the main screen initially shows upcoming departures from the closest stop. That default deserves checking: the closest stop is not automatically the stop you intend to use.
Its current instructions let you search for a line, change direction, and select a specific stop from the list. Check that selected stop against the physical location and current signs before waiting. Do not assume the return stop is directly opposite the outbound stop.
Keep these four fields together in your notes:
- Route or line name.
- Travel direction as displayed.
- Boarding stop name and identifier, if supplied.
- Destination stop and final pedestrian connection.
If a map and a closure sign disagree, do not disregard the sign to follow a countdown. Obtain current operator guidance on the boarding location. A route passing nearby does not establish that it will stop where you are standing.
What is the difference between scheduled and real-time?
Transit's documentation says real-time departures use two pulsating waves beside the countdown; its schedule guide also distinguishes bold real-time entries from grey scheduled entries. Read the status indicator rather than assuming that every number decreasing on a screen is a live observation.
The departure-tracking guide explains that grey scheduled times represent the published schedule, not delays or service changes. It also describes information based on vehicle location and arrival estimates that change as service runs early or late.
A prediction is still an estimate. Record the time at which you checked it, especially if you are comparing two legs of a journey. An estimate copied several minutes ago and a fresh estimate are not simultaneous observations.
Do not decide that a trip is cancelled simply because live information is absent. Transit distinguishes an agency-reported cancellation from its own “Likely cancelled” inference. Those labels communicate different levels of confirmation; neither should be silently rewritten in your notes.
What should you look for in a detour alert?
Read the notice itself. A warning symbol cannot tell you all the affected stops or when the change applies.
Transit's service-alert guide says significant alerts appear beside a line, while information-level notices appear after opening that line. It also instructs users to check the opposite direction separately. Where supported, alerts can identify a particular affected stop.

- Is the issue a delay, skipped stop, relocated stop, or changed path?
- Does the notice identify where boarding is available instead?
- Does that location change the pedestrian connection or accessibility plan?
Do not guess a replacement stop from where other people happen to wait. Follow current official notices and on-site instructions. Check both outward and return journeys; an alert affecting one direction may not describe the other.
Transit says its automatic detour detection is not available in all supported regions. Its tracking guide also states that real-time estimates are not currently available at detoured stops within that feature. A displayed detour therefore must not become a promise of complete live predictions for every replacement stop.
How do changing estimates affect a transfer?
The following is an invented planning exercise, not a real RTC itinerary, timetable, recommended transfer allowance, or measured walking route. All times are hypothetical local clock times.
At 2:00 p.m., a first-leg arrival at a transfer point is estimated for 2:18 p.m. A second bus is estimated to depart at 2:27 p.m. The apparent gap is 9 minutes.
At 2:10 p.m., the first arrival estimate changes to 2:24 p.m., while the second departure remains 2:27 p.m. The apparent gap is now 3 minutes. It has decreased by 6 minutes.

Neither gap proves the connection is usable. The calculation has not accounted for alighting, the actual stop-to-stop route, signals, boarding, mobility needs, or another estimate change.
If the connection no longer works for your group, examine a later departure or a different trip plan. Do not run into traffic, cross against signals, or enter a closed area to preserve a connection. A missed bus is not a reason to override a pedestrian restriction.
What changes when your phone is offline?
Transit's offline guidance, updated July 2, 2026, distinguishes stored schedules and maps from live information. It says real-time arrivals and service alerts are unavailable offline. An offline trip plan is schedule-based, not a fresh check for delays or disruption.
Open the app while connected before travel and check that the information you expect to retain is available. Keep a written route, direction, stop and destination record as a backup. Do not describe that backup as current after losing connectivity.
The same guidance warns that location accuracy can decrease offline. Match a stop using its displayed name, available identifier and physical signage rather than relying only on a position dot.
A screenshot can preserve useful details but cannot report a newly closed stop. Reconnect and recheck when possible. If information remains uncertain, seek current help through the operator or available transit staff rather than extending an exposed wait on an assumption.
How do heat and road safety change the decision?
Check the National Weather Service Las Vegas forecast and alerts before the trip and again before exposed transfers. Identify a confirmed, open air-conditioned place and a way to change the journey if conditions deteriorate.
The NWS heat guidance recommends reducing or rescheduling strenuous activity and spending time in air-conditioned places. There is no universal safe outdoor waiting duration in this guide. Ask a qualified clinician about individual health, medication, or fluid-restriction concerns.
Confusion, slurred speech, seizure, or loss of consciousness can indicate heat stroke. Call 911, stay with the person, move them to a cooler area, remove outer clothing, and begin cooling with wet skin or cold wet cloths while help arrives. Follow dispatcher instructions; do not wait for the bus. These actions follow CDC/NIOSH heat-illness guidance.
For pedestrian connections, NHTSA advises using sidewalks, obeying signs and signals, and crossing at crosswalks or intersections. Stay alert for turning vehicles. Read your phone while stationary away from traffic, not while crossing.
